Sony to Start TV Streaming Trials, Service Won't Be Cheap

Sony is preparing to begin testing its new "Playstation Vue" streaming video service later this month in New York on an invite-only basis for Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 customers. [...] Unlike Dish's streaming service, which the company says will be a lower-cost offering aimed at younger cord cutters, Sony tells The Wall Street Journal they'll offer a better, but not less expensive, TV option. [...] It's not yet clear precisely how Sony intends to do this. The "value" of over the top streaming service usually comes in the form of rates that are meaningfully lower than what they'd pay for traditional cable. Keeping prices the same while offering the same or less content may not be a winning strategy unless Sony's implementation is particularly unique and compelling. - Karl Bode,DSL Reports [via/web:http://streaming-tv.us]
