I Finally Cut The Cord: How Getting Rid Of Cable Helped Me Discover Better TV

I’ve had Netflix and Hulu subscriptions through late high school and college, traditional cable gave me an out to lazily and mindlessly spend my time searching for something on TV rather than actively looking and choosing a show or movie I’m actually in the mood for. Part laziness, part pure comfortability (I’ve always had at least one TV in my home since birth, really), clicking through channels encouraged me to waste away my evenings, night after night, which usually ended with me idly swiping on my phone. The TV became expensive background noise. This habitual unproductiveness would have been mildly more respectable had I been engaged with the service I signed to pay for hand over foot. - Olivia Armstrong, Decider [via/web:http://streaming-tv.us]
